Reading Comprehension

New Words:

Representative / Typical

To give blessings

A year’s farming

Ancestors

"Korea’s major holidays are Lunar New Year (Seollal) and Chuseok. Seollal marks the start of the new year. Families and relatives gather to perform ancestral rites and bow to elders. Elders then give blessings and New Year’s money (sebaetdon) to juniors. On Seollal, people eat tteokguk.

Chuseok is a day to thank ancestors for the year’s harvest. People visit graves or perform rites at home. They eat songpyeon and make wishes while admiring the full moon."
