KIIP 2 Unit 6 Mood and Emotion

Welcome to KIIP Level 2: Unit 6! In this lesson, we will learn how to express moods (기분) and emotions (감정) in Korean. You'll master essential vocabulary, key grammar points, and useful phrases to describe feelings in daily conversations.

This unit introduces two important grammar structures: Verb/Adjective + 겠다, which expresses assumptions or future feelings, and Verb/Adjective + / , which indicates "when" a certain situation occurs.

Grammar Notes & Example Sentences

1. Verb/Adjective + 겠다 (Assumption/Future Feeling)

Used to express assumptions about the present/future or how someone might feel.

Conjugation Rules:

·        Consonant-ending stems → -겠다 (e.g., 많다 많겠다)

·        Vowel-ending stems → -겠다 (e.g., 기쁘다 기쁘겠다)

Examples:

·        생일 선물로 지갑을 받았어요. - , 정말 좋겠어요.
(I got a wallet as a birthday gift. - Wow, you must be really happy!)

·        서울에서 10시에 KTX 거예요. - 그럼 부산에 12 전에 도착하겠네요.
(I’ll take the KTX at 10 AM from Seoul. - Then you’ll probably arrive in Busan before 12 PM.)

·        어제 11시까지 일했어요. - 많이 피곤하겠어요.
(I worked until 11 PM last night. - You must be very tired.)

·        내일 비가 오니까 날씨가 춥겠어요.
(It’s going to rain tomorrow, so it’ll probably be cold.)

·        오랜만에 가족들을 만나요. - 정말 반갑겠어요.
(I’m meeting my family after a long time. - You must be so glad!)

2. Verb/Adjective + / (When...)

Used to describe actions or feelings that occur at a specific time.

Conjugation Rules:

·        Consonant-ending stems → -  (e.g., 아프다 아플 )

·        Vowel-ending stems → -  (e.g., 기쁘다 기쁠 )

Examples:

·        언제 부모님이 많이 생각나요? - 아플 부모님이 생각나요.
(When do you think of your parents a lot? - I think of them when I’m sick.)

·        기분이 좋을 어떻게 해요? - 기분이 좋을 산책해요.
(What do you do when you feel bad? - I take a walk when I feel bad.)

·        윗사람과 식사할 숟가락을 먼저 들지 마세요.
(When eating with elders, don’t pick up your spoon first.)

·        숙제가 많아서 힘들 한국 친구가 도와줘요.
(When I struggle with a lot of homework, my Korean friend helps me.)

·        저는 가족들과 맛있는 음식을 먹을 행복해요.
(I feel happy when I eat delicious food with my family.)
