) 거예요 and A/V- grammars = ‘future tense’ and ‘listing’ in Korean

 

1. V-() 거예요grammar = will, be going to ~future tense

- It is used when talking about future events or plans. (미래의 일이나 계획을 말할 때 사용해요.) = ‘will’ or ‘be going to’ in English

 

이번 휴일에 거예요? – 놀이공원에 거예요.

What are you going to do this holiday? - I'm going to go to an amusement park.

 

저녁에 먹을 거예요? – 김치찌개를 먹을 거예요.

What are you going to eat for dinner? - I'm going to eat kimchi stew.

 

제이슨 씨는 방학에 태권도를 배울 거예요.

Jason is going to learn taekwondo during the vacation.

 

Tense

 

Verb ending in vowel + 거예요

가다 (to go) -> 거예요

보다 (to see) -> 거예요

만나다 (to meet) -> 만날 거예요

*만들다 (to make) -> 만들 거예요

 

Verb ending in consonant + 거예요

먹다 (to eat) -> 먹을 거예요

입다 (to wear) -> 입을 거예요

*듣다 (to listen) -> 들을 거예요

 

Examples

 

1. 다음 목요일에 거예요? – 문화 센터에서 한국 음식을 만들 거예요.

What are you going to do next Thursday? – I’m going to make Korean food at the cultural center.

 

2. 다음 주 금요일에 뭐 할 거예요? – 친구 집에 노러 갈 거예요.

What are you going to do next Friday? – I’m going to visit a friend’s house.

 

3. 다음 주 토요일에 뭐 힐 거예요? – 가족하고 외식할 거예요.

What are you going to do next Saturday? – I’m going to eat out with my family.

 

4. 다음 주 일요일에 뭐 할 거예요? – 마트에서 장을 볼 거예요.

What are you going to do next Sunday? – I’m going to shop at the supermarket.

 

2. A/V- grammar = and ~listing

- It is used to connect or list two or more things. (두 가지 이상의 일을 연결해서 말할 때 사용해요.)

 

안젤라 , 이번 휴가에 거예요? – 산에서 등산도 하고 캠핑도 거예요.

Angela, what are you going to do this vacation? - I'm going to go hiking and camping in the mountains.

 

주말에 보통 뭐해요? – 저는 장도 보고 운동도 해요.

What do you usually do on the weekends? - I go shopping and exercise.

 

한국어 공부는 어때요? – 한국어 공부는 쉽고 재미있습니다.

How about studying Korean? - Studying Korean is easy and fun.

 

Tense


Verb /Adjective + = and

먹다 -> 먹고 마시다 (eat and drink)

가다 -> 가고 방문하다 (go and visit)

맛있다 -> 맛있고 바삭바삭하다 (delicious and crunchy)

크다 -> 크고 길다 (big and long)

 

Examples

 

1. 휴가 거예요? – 저는 낮잠도 자고 텔레비전도 거예요.

What are you going to do on vacation? - I'm going to take a nap and watch TV.

 

2. 휴가 거예요? – 공원에서 사진을 찍고 꽃구경을 거예요.

What are you going to do on vacation? - I'm going to take pictures at the park and look at flowers.

 

3. 휴가 거예요? – 운동하고 한국어를 열심히 공부할 거예요.

What are you going to do on vacation? - I'm going to exercise and study Korean hard.

 

4. 휴가 거예요? – 부모님을 만나고 고향 음식을 먹을 거예요.

What are you going to do on vacation? - I'm going to see my parents and eat hometown food.
